Barcelona assistant Director of Football calls Angel di Maria 'ugly'

"Florentino Perez [Madrid's president] looks at the world market and wants a team of Galacticos for everyone to admire. Do you understand what I mean?

[Cristiano] Ronaldo is the flagship of the club. Perez is selling an international brand. Vicente del Bosque and Di Maria are too ugly for Real Madrid. They are different from Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez." - Carles Rexach

Disgusting. Shame on him for saying something like that.

I don't see what is so disgusting. It's a fact that Real Madrid is a global brand and needs to sell. Good looking people sell more. People need to stop getting offended so easily.

I remember Pep calling Cuenca ugly, its really no big deal.

Well I don't see how our director didn't see Pepe ugly.

Simple truth, Perez fired Del Bosque just after getting CL, because he was considered not class enough ( physically ), this is simple truth, i agree its disgusting to fire a coach and players for their appearence...

“I don’t understand what happened at that moment. When we were celebrating La Liga’s title, he just fired him”, Ronaldo explains.

Carlos Queiroz his successor, a good looking and classy one wasnt able to do 1/10 of what Del Bosque did.

So what's Pepe still doing in the squad if that's the case?

After Ozil and Di Maria, before Makelele and a long list of black players, Pepe logically is next, he is actually playing the Lucio role, but time will come Perez will get rif of him..

"Simple truth". AArghh, that logic^. And backs it up with a completely unrelated comment from Ronaldo?

@Wolfie, He's very "Intimidating" on the pitch.

Update: Some one already drew a cartoon.

Having won two La Liga titles, two Champions Leagues, a Spanish Supercup, a UEFA Supercup and the Intercontinental Cup during his time in charge of Los Merengues, he oversaw one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern day history. As the Galacticos started to arrive without the manager’s permission, the club shockingly chose not to renew Del Bosque’s contract in 2003. The club subsequently failed to win the title again until 2007 (under Fabio Capello) despite hemorrhaging money in the pursuit of trinkets. Del Bosque?

Nobody will say it as directly, but Perez gives a big importance to image and brand, for him Del Bosque didnt have the image to coach the galacticos era, nobody was questioning his abilities, fewmonths later, Hierro, Makelele, Morientes all left the club, i have always though this and Del Bosque indireclty insinuated it few months after being sacked.

Its considered one of the most unfair sacking of coaches ever...

Now ok if not for this reason, give me one just one, the one who replaced him was assistant manager of United with empty CV, 0 relation with the club but good looking, maybe Perez wantedmore power on the team but Del Bosque wast hot headed coach so what could be else in your opinion ? Perez isnt dumb enough to admit it.

Marcelo? Pepe? Bale? Modric? Di Maria wanted to leave, so did Ozil. Barcelona fans are just looking for a way to slay Real Madrid. Honestly give it a break. If this was truth, why would these players be hired in the first place. Ronaldo also said "We were celebrating the league and suddenly he was gone" Maybe an argument with Florentino? You just cant jump in and infer he was sacked because of looks, because Ancelotti is not any more physically appealing than Del Bosque.

  • Real Madrid have plenty of players who aren't the best-looking players in the world. Looks have no issue in Madrid. Di Maria left because of other reasons. Maybe you should think your thoughts over again before commenting.

Well , he is right . Di Maria is one ugly rat looking mazafaka . Ethically and morally he is wrong . Marketing wise , he is right .
I think Bale made some surgery !

I bet Perez was like : " Hell No ..!! Those years are getting some fixing ASAP , then I will buy you , so you can play with Ronaldo " . Bale's dream mattered more , so he went on with surgery and now plays with his idol .

@Marcus - Bale had the surgery to reduce wind drag..

Think my thoughts over before commenting? Its an opinion. Whenever Real Madrid is advertised which players show up? Ronaldo, James, Kroos and Bale. Its about publicity and you cannot deny image matters in advertising. Ronaldo himself models for various high end brands. Now if you are offended because your team is depicted in a bad light, im sorry. Madrid does have average looking players, but they almost never show up in advertisement and they aren't the focal points.
Anyways, this doesn't matter as its going way off topic. I don't find his original comment disgusting like you said.

I don't see it disgusting, but I find it disrespectful, he had no right to say stuff bluntly without proof, plus di maria himself wanted to leave, moreover pepe and benzema had joined Madrid advertisement many times so that is a pathetic comment, Cause many clubs post their main players on advertisement.

Nevertheless he bought him when he was way uglier than just proves it, he kept pepe all this time.

Chelsea fired di matteo when he won the champions league on his first season with Chelsea, so I say it might be personal problems between them, we can't judge why a coach got sacked so of our little information we all carry about the relationship between directors, coaches etc.

Di Maria isn't the prettiest boy in the world^ but I highly doubt he got sacked because of his looks as tiki seems to think.

Put on your tin-foil hat people. I smell a conspiracy growing on FF.

This is what Perez wants basically :

This is the cult of personality to the extreme. Cristiano Ronaldo sends its own hairdresser once a month, in the Madrid wax museum, to take care of the hair of his double.

This is the communications director of the museum, Gonzalo Presa, who revealed to the Cadena Ser. "Cristiano Ronaldo has asked us to ensure that his statue is still pafaite. So he sends his own barber once a month. These are natural hair. They come from India. "

This world needs some ugly truth, so many people miss informed by media and living in a paralele world where they see just what they told them to see...

Rexack may have commited a mistake by talking about Madrid publicly, but Madrid did worst and not just talking, Perez tried by any way to affect them, signed useless players for Madrid just to avoid the rival from signing them, they took part from the Neymar gate and they went in contact with the socios under Rossell disadvanture.....

Really i can post 1 thread like this in a week for any thing said or done by Madrid to Barça, those clubs are in a constant war for decades and we dont need to fall into it as fans, Banter is the sweetest way to answer commenting mutual things done by the clubs is a never ending story....
