Atletico Madrid escape

Atletico Madrid have been fined 602 euros after Cristiano Ronaldo was struck on the head by a lighter thrown by one of their fans during Tuesday's Copa del Rey semi-final.

Atletico could have been fined up to 30,000 euros and be forced to play up to three games behind close doors.

However, the club escaped with a token punishment as the disciplinary committee took into account that a lighter is not a prohibited item in a stadium and that Ronaldo was not seriously injured and was able to play on

I mean, 602 euros? really?

Why would they charge them more? I think its bad that they even got charged and so should all football fans wanting to keep some atmosphere in the game before it gets completely killed. West Hams atmosphere from 2016 will go from one of England's best to completely dead when they move to modern stadiums like Olympic Stadium and leave old school stadiums like Upton Park. And if you on top of that charge fans for small things like that its even worse.

Because throwing things at people's heads is just 'atmosphere'?

^ I don't claim it is 'just atmosphere', certainly. I do, however, recognize that the injured player in question was deliberately, and with a big smile on his face, antagonizing the people who did.

Context is, er, important.

@tiki_taka I did say the same, what the hell are you trying to imply? It creates a hostile atmosphere which is what makes football games great. Games without hostile atmospheres like El Clasico (or Arsenal home games) is a nuisance to watch or to be at.

Can't wait for Dynastian to come in here and tell us all how disgusting this is. LOL jk. But really it isn't Atletico's fault about what happened. You can only look over at so many things at once.
