To be fair, all second-placed teams are in trouble. None of the 1st place teams are teams you'd want to face in the Ro16. Here are each team's possible opponents.

Manchester City - Real Madrid, PSG, Dortmund, Atletico, Barcelona
Zenit - all but Atletico
AC Milan - all but Barcelona
Schalke - Atletico, Barcelona, Real Madrid, United, PSG
Olympiakos - all but PSG
Galatasaray - all but Madrid
Leverkusen - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico, Chelsea, PSG

It just turned out that PSG, the 3 Spanish powerhouses, both German powerhouses, and Chelsea and United are the teams that topped their groups. Each team that was expected to win the group.... won it. It'll be interesting to see if all these 1st place teams can pass on to the quarters. What an interesting quarter-finals we would have on our hands then. Ooh! Seeing Atletico, Real, Barca, United, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern, and Dortmund all face off against each other is mouth-watering.

If we can't beat one of the first place team, then we can't win the tournament. And if we can't there is no point in us playing the CL in the first place (except for TV money). Our ambition is to get to the final and win it.

we shot ourselves in the foot. At 70 mins id appreciate a draw then Higuain scored. i was happy dortmund was pegged back until it got 2-1. Hope we face PSG they are overrated in my opinion . They lose to small french teams and no one bats an eye. Well we are fucked. looks like its time to concentrate on EPL and FA Cup

Arsene Wenger: "That is the frustration (not winning the group), because you feel there was room to do better, but it could have been worse as well tonight.
Of course, to finish second makes the potential draw more difficult. In the last four or five years, we have had very difficult draws, so maybe this time we will be more lucky.

But if you look at the teams who are potentially there, at least we know we will have a difficult draw.

On the other hand, we have now qualified (from the initial group stage) for a 14th consecutive year and maybe number 14 will bring us a bit of luck.

But for now, we have a little breather to focus on the championship. We have a very difficult game on Saturday morning (at Manchester City).

We will see what comes out of the draw and will assess that in February, because a lot can change on both sides, on us and the team we play against, so we need to put that to the back of our minds now and focus on the championship."

Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, or Barça are our options.

I'd be content with any of the first three listed. Arsenal was very lucky to go through today. Koscielny has been an absolute rock though. KingHenry has a point. There shouldn't be any surprise that all the teams left are powerhouses, Arsenal (and every other team) were bound to meet a challenge sooner or later. Juventus crashed out today. I don't know about everyone else but I was very surprised.

Like Mourinho says, "this is champions league" (stern-faced with a heavy portuguese accent).

Wenger was right to rest Walcott and Wilshere for the upcoming match against City, but it bit us in the arse. Heck, Man City came back from a 2-0 deficit to win it against Bayern. This is champions league, anything can happen. Let us not forget that Dortmund almost didn't even qualify! Against Marseille.

Juventus was absolute crap in our group. They only mustered out one win out of the six matches, and that was at home against Kobenhavn. They lost and drew Madrid and Galatasaray, and drew Kobenhavn away. Terrible results.

you all know that in previous 2 to 3 season arsenal were out due to big teams so if they can't beat big team then they have no chance to win this tournament
best of luck Arsenal

Well if they are knocked out from the CL in the Ro16 and also get knocked out from Spurs in the FA Cup qualifiers then it's safe to assume the EPL is theirs for the taking.

@vendetta if only it were that easy. By the way do you think spurs will beat us in the FA Cup ? We are playing at home I believe.

Also, we are playing the best teams, but I like the idea that the team that draw us will think "Fuck..." We are no pushovers. We are top of the EPL and we qualified from the group of death. Bring it on.

Wouldn't be the first time we'd knocked you out, at home. ;)

Should be a cracker of a match, either way. It's basically a semi-final or a final, just a few rounds too early. Anything can happen in a NLD cup tie.
