Ansu Fati Gets Lionel Messi's Number At Barcelona

Ansu Fati to wear the number 10 shirt

The young striker takes over the jersey after the departure of Leo Messi

Fati has a new shirt number. After wearing the number 22 then 17, the young Barça striker will proudly wear the number 10 shirt - a famous jersey previously worn by legends such as Leo Messi, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo.

Despite being just 18 years of age and still recovering from injury, Ansu Fati forms part of Barça's history as a record breaker and also with the Spanish national side.

Since his debut in August 2019, the youngster has set records in the league and Champions League. Just six days after his debut for the first team he became the youngest ever player to score in the league for FC Barcelona.

Sources told ESPN that Barca had considered leaving the number unused for the 2021-22 season, but LaLiga rules that first-team players must wear numbers 1-25 made that difficult.

Damn thats a lots of pressure, think personally I would have liked to see Pedri wearing number 10 instead, he already shown a lot, in Euro and at the Olympic as well.

Fati got the potential but he need to show he can keep his best level consistently and also that he can remain injury free enough to play constantly for Barca. Wish him all the best though.

Strange that Depay didn't ask for it

@expertfootball11 He was already given 9 when he got there and Messi was believed to stay. Not sure they can change new signing numbers like that easily. I mean, think about all the folks with Depay number 9 shirt, they would be so pissed if they changed it a few weeks later. XD

True, he is first and foremost a winger despite playing rarely as a center foward and as an attacking midfielder. Guess they just meant striker as attacking minded player but its still a mistake, not a big one but still.
