Angel Di Maria’s red card was the turning point

"When I look back on the key changes, I still feel that Angel Di Maria’s red card against Arsenal was critical in allowing Van Gaal to build this new-look team."

This is the opinion given by Scholes, but sadly, a lot of people shares the same ideas, including me.

But to be fair, this might sound really hard on Maria.

  • May be it's just that the system finally worked, or everyone started to understand LVG's philosophy and games.
  • Di Maria's performance certainly far from his price tag, and he tried so hard to prove it which created extra pressure on him and it went backfired
  • Young and Fellaini suddently are on top of their games.

When Maria fits in and works his way out into the system, I really do hope we will be even more dangerous, but so far it seems like we are a bit better off without him (in the starting 11). He would be only a perfect sub.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, I read this earlier Scholesy made some good points, I'd still play him though you need to stick with him treating him like an outcast would be really unfair he is second in the league with assist. Let's get these clashes done and get ready for next season.

Doors are open for Angel, if United wants to get rid of him for a fair price. Many things can affect the pitch performence of a player, sometimes its just about the integration, sometimes its the coach relationship with the player, other times its the style of the team, or an injury that take time to recover, sometimes its just a curse or maybe the player needs to be confident...Angel knows what pressure means, he came from the most underpressure team in the world, and his performences was judged and analyzed every game and every bad form immediately took him in the bench...
I really cant understand whats happening with him, maybe Chelsea or Arsenal would have been better destinations for him, maybe he went in trouble in his private life, anyway questionning his talent would be just non sence, he should have done at least same Sanchez season if not a better season...
I guess nobody has an answer, he could be one of the best players of the league next year so maybe he needs time to adapt, he didnt deliver his first season in Madrid too, so maybe he needs to be completly stable adapting to the new life style and neighborhood to deliver, he was awful in the national team too last games, maybe he just dropped form due to lack of motivation and work considering the Huge salary he gets...

Only him and his close circle could know where is the problem ? Benching him a little could make him react positively, thats was Madrid did and it worked...

What amazes me that quiet player who barely spoke and was shy , Scholes , now preaching about football . Now I begging to see why Sir Alex used to him quiet , because he is a loose cannon when he speaks .

Flop or not flop. Di Maria has 10 assists under his name in 19 appearances . He is having ok season but calling his red card as blessing in the sky is stupid . In some matches he was more effective and some matches was not . He could play just great in current Youngs position .

BTW ONLY WAYNE ROONEY other than DI Maria from United would have made the starting place in Real Madrid . That is the quality of Di Maria we are talking about .

Not sure if I agree with Scholsey's assessment. RVP has been injured since the Swansea game and Rooney has returned up top where he belongs. That has made a much bigger difference for us. Di Maria made an assist for us coming off the bench against Villa and Liverpool, so he has definitely been useful.
