Angel Di Maria Voted Argentina's Player of the Year

Manchester United 104 1380

Angel Di Maria has won the Olimpia de Plata, voted by Argentina's sport journalists. Anyone else find this somewhat bizarre, given the form of Aguero and Lionel Messi being nominated for the Ballon d'Or? Nonetheless, I am happy for him. He did contribute greatly to R. Madrid's UCL win last year and to Argentina's WC run. not to mention becoming the most expensive player in PL history.

Messi won the award like 7 years in a row I believe. Anways, strange he didn't receive it this year since he had his best year with Argentina in a World Cup year, even though Di Maria deserves it as well imo. But surprisingly Lucas Pratto got the 2nd place, which speaks for itself. I guess it's too "mainstream" to give any awards to Messi these days.

Not shocking, it depends on the criteria of the votes, Di Maria achieved the whole year. One thing i dont like specially in BO is that the criteria changes each year to suit Fifa's favourites...

Player of the year doesnt mean the best Footballer, it means the player who did most in the year and based on achievement criteria, Angel is a deserving winner.

The opposite wouldnt be shocking either, if we judge on potential and stats/work rate, Messi would win any single individual trophy.

I think it's the attitude... People gave it to the player they thought was giving it his all

Fully deserved it. He's been the best Argentine this season.

Disappointed he got injured during the World Cup though.
