36 players spent three days at Stretford High School in Manchester to raise money for Francis, House which is a local children’s hospital.
Each player remained on the pitch for five hours at a time and had tents nearby where they could go for some rest, before heading back on to the pitch.
The final score at the end of 72 hour match was an unimaginable 603-462. The winners were Stockport Albion, defeating Manchester Rovers, in a match that lasted the equivalent of 48 normal football games at a stretch. They have raised over £20,000 for charity.
The group, who spent 72 long hours playing football, are hoping to break the record for the world’s longest ever football match. They are now waiting to hear back from Guinness World Records to see whether the match will become an official record.
The current holder of such an insane record is a 62-hour football match that was played in the Netherlands in May 2012.
