lol @ golazo , what does having a big head....
@Golazo XD
Damn, nice one Emo.
Almost all of this are to EPL... Feel likes a precious league of all attractions. :D
Just kidding, more like a bunch of bat sh1t crazy rich idiots.
None are from EPL to others. Not sure why..., but certainly EPL clubs have alot more money
Lol
@tuan_jinn Cause they need an excuse to sell their player at a higher price and they can do just that when they sell to a league rival. :P But seriously, lack of abroad English international is and will alway be a problem for England national team in my opinion, cause if mean those guys horizon are much less diverse than their opponent.
except for a few bargains (lacazette, bonnuci, salah, tielemens etc) it seems the market is abt double what its worth
Yep, inflation wasn't a joke, since Pogba transfer everyone are asking a few more million of English side it seem. :(
@nigel @emo keep in mind the value of a player is seldom related to the price being paid. Buying teams have to either A. Give incentives to selling by paying the value worth + profit margins. or B. activate the release clause in the player's contract.
Literally, the only time a player is sold for his actual value is when A. the contract is about to expire and the selling club thus might end up with earning nothing on the player in question or B. When they want to get rid of the player because of internal problems such as tactics, fights or general corruption.
Also, talents are usually under valued at transfermarkt as they haven't yet proved themselves and valuation take both time and consistency. Thus, sometimes it's a gamble from top clubs buying talents expensively. They might prove to be a Ronaldo but might as well be an overly hyped player that has already reached their maximum potential and eventually will fade away.
English players will not go abroad just like common English man or British man won't go work outside of UK . They just pay better here in EPL and you are home close to your friends , family, girlfriend or Secondary school girls and etc.
@Marcus
you are home close to your friends , family, girlfriend or Secondary school girls and etc.
Wouldn't that be true for any other country though? :S Also, I disagree with being payed better in England, Real and PSG can offer a lots to some English player and the temperature isn't the best in England. Actually pherhap that one reason english player doesn't move to other league, its because they aren't bothered by the temperature. XD But seriously, don't you think playing in other league would help some of them bring some diversity to their game and results in helping the national team in the long term? :S After all, if Spanish and French player can thrive in England, no reason why Englishman couldn't thrive in those country. :(
@Marcus: that's a quite unreasonable thinking. Going aboard for a couple of years would totally benefit them.
And for the record, "English man or British man won't go work outside of UK" <-- TOTALLY UNTRUE. British business, and knowledge workers are everywhere.
Travelling abroad is what allows you to gain new experiences and expand whatever knowledge you already had at your disposal. In the case of British footballers, they would be able to learn new styles of football. But they never wish to do that. The culture is just not there, and it won't be fixed anytime soon.
I thought Bale's record-transfer might influence some Brits to try their luck in Spain or Germany or Italy or France, but it looks like Bale is going to go down as the anomaly.
The culture is just not there, and it won't be fixed anytime soon.
Even though the english prefer their own mentality even when abroad, the culture of others came to them because of the Premier League. Alot of staff members from Spain, Italy, Portugal and players from all over the world have played in England and made fans enjoy a bit different environment. In such a place there is no need to go abroad, if you made it well in the Premier League you made it.
@Golazo

Not quite sure I agree with this. Every league are different, it doesn't matter if PL got bit of every culture, it could never completely imitate another one. The most obvious difference would be the fact that PL is extremely physical while some other are a lot more technical. I'm sure some english player wouldn't suceed anywhere in Europe.
@Emo You're right but I meant to say that if you're playing in the Premier League you don't really need to look for moving out to another league, I think even clubs in the Championship have higher budgets compared to some other first league teams from other countries so I think a player can be pretty happy playing in the Premier League without wanting to go abroad...
But it goes both ways obviously, if you're playing in Inter Milan or Sevilla or Herta you also don't need to look for joining the Premier League either, let alone the current top teams Juventus, Real Madrid or Bayern...My point was to say that Premier League without people from abroad wouldn't be as good but because it's one of the best leagues a player doesn't need to search far, the dream right there!
Compared to lets say poor leagues where the goal for every player is to move outside of their country, players from England don't need to worry about that.
@Golazo Yeah, ok, I get what you mean. Still wish English player would move to other league from time to time, would keep thing interested. Also, I feel like this mean player from other country have more reason to perform in England than English player themselve because they don't have the advantage of being linked with the country since a long time. They need to convince the fan they deserve to be there contrary to some English player.
So here is a list taken from transfermarkt.co of all the transfer over 20M pounds this transfer window as of now by ranking:
I'm not exactly sure if the fee are all perfectly right or not (one thing for sure, they do not seem to count bonus) but I thought that list would still be good to compare some thing like the players age, position, nationality and the team that moved for them.
So first off, we can already see that most of this year big transfer are for young player still in their prime. Only 6 of the 24 player on this list are older than 24 year old.
Second, we can see that as usual, the team who spent the most are from the PL, no big suprise there other than Everton big presence in the lower part of the list. Atletico ban and Real depth mean there is naturaly not a lot of activity from Spain.
Third, the nationality which appear the most on this list seem to be French, Italian, Portuguese and of course English. Its also worth noting that 5 player in the top 10 come from Ligue 1 and played in either Lyon or Monaco.
Last but not least, I'm suprised to see the sheer number of defender (full-back included) in that list, it seem a lots of top team are rebuilding their defense.
Anyway, any thought about the list? Anything I missed or got wrong?
