A Theory: The Dortmund Effect

When we look at Dortmund's squad in the past 3 years, we notice that they have some really talented players that are either gone or still there. But the one thing that scares me is how their recent sold players didn't really make the impact they made with Dortmund. We can take Nuri Sahin as an example. He was really making a name for himself at Dortmund, being the puppet master their and controlling the flow of the game. While it is true he did get injured for sometime at Madrid, he did eventually recover but was still not played as much as at Dortmund. He went on a loan to Liverpool but failed there as well, starting on 12 time with them. But then, he returned to the club that made him and he improved their massively, making a name for himself when he started for them. I guess the same can go for Kagawa but to be fair, he was sidelined for quite sometime after getting injured.

My point is, Dortmund have some talented players, but their style of play helps every one of their players that they succeed much more at Dortmund. I fear if rumors such as Lewandowski to Chelsea are true, he will not make an impact as big as his impact at BVB. Same goes for Hummels with Barcelona.

This is just a silly theory, but I seriously believe their team is built to help all the players fit into the team and work amazingly there. So once they leave, they're not the same as they were at Dortmund.

That is much more complicated, rama. His injuries actually caused him to flop at Chelsea. While people laugh at Torres for being a shadow of his former self, he actually tries to improve himself and recover. Torres was barely rested at Liverpool and had some injury problems that would destroy him. As Liverpool relied MASSIVELY on Torres, so they had to keep playing him. His injury in the WC2010 Final also aided in his destruction. The Torres in red was gone before he joined Chelsea, nobody noticed at that time though that he was in his twilight. of being one of the best strikers in Europe. If you want me to get into more detail, I would be glad to make a thread about it. Just post on my wall if you want to see an analysis of Torres through his stages of failing.

From what I've seen, Kagawa has not been played in his natural position much, and when he was, he's been successful (remember that hat-trick?). Otherwise, it isn't all that easy adapting from the German side of the game to the English side.

As for Sahin, he had an awful time with his knee ligament injury. He injured it in preseason, and injured it again several weeks later. When you have a bad start to a club like Real Madrid, I honestly doubt you can get back in. And that's without considering that players like Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil, and Xabi Alonso were already playing for the club. But, I gotta blame Real Madrid management for ruining Sahin's career. He played pretty well when he was given time, but Mourinho did not favor Sahin as much as Klopp did. It was a great buy for Real Madrid (at the beginning), but it would always have been a bad move for Sahin.
