«Worked Like Crap»: Messi Lashed Out At The Referee After The Match

Messi insulted the referee following the Paraguay vs. Argentina game.

Argentina's football captain, Lionel Messi, made harsh remarks toward the referee after his team's loss to Paraguay in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match, RMC Sport reports.

The match, held on Thursday in Asunción, ended with the hosts' 2-1 victory. After the final whistle, Messi approached the referee and angrily criticized his performance.

«You worked like crap; I don't like you,» Messi reportedly told the referee, according to several Argentine media outlets.

The Inter Miami forward was reportedly furious over the referee’s decision not to issue a second yellow card to Paraguayan player Omar Alderete in the 37th minute. Alderete later scored the winning goal in the 47th minute.

It is unclear if the referee included Messi’s remarks in his report or if the player will face additional sanctions.
