Who Has Been Promoted to Serie A?
After the end of the season in Italy's Serie B, the clubs Parma and Como received direct tickets to Serie A, and Venezia also made it to the top league through the playoffs. It's the perfect time to get acquainted.
Parma
The former club of Gianluigi Buffon is perhaps the main candidate to maintain its place. Parma had the most expensive squad in Serie B (€78.55 million), with an average age of 25.
Fun fact: Parma was the last Italian club to win the second most prestigious European competition before Atalanta.
Como
The team is de facto managed by Cesc Fàbregas. Still, the Spaniard does not yet have the necessary coaching diplomas to be considered the head coach, so he has to share the role with Osian Roberts.
The club's main owner is the Indonesian tobacco mega conglomerates from the Djarum Group, whose owners, the Hartono brothers, are among the top 100 richest people on the planet, according to Forbes. However, part of the club's shares are on the market, and among the minority shareholders are Thierry Henry and Fàbregas himself.
Fun fact: Como will have to start the season at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona because their home stadium, Sinigaglia, will be undergoing reconstruction.
Venezia
After being relegated to Serie B, the club hired former Spartak Moscow coach Paolo Vanoli, who led them back to the top division. However, it is possible that the new season will have to start with a different manager—Torino, whose coach Ivan Jurić wants to leave, is actively pursuing Vanoli.
Fun fact: Venezia is located in the Triveneto region, which means Italy will have two new derbies – against Verona and Udinese.
