The Number of Teams in Serie A Will Be Reduced

The number of teams participating in the Italian Serie A may be reduced from 20 to 18, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The publication notes that the leading clubs in Serie A are advocating for the reform, citing the motivation that starting next year, the number of matches will increase due to changes in the format of the Champions League and the Club World Cup. The remaining Italian clubs oppose the changes, arguing that reducing the number of teams will lead to losing the value of television rights.

If 14 clubs vote in favor of the reform, the decision will be made.
