Report: Speeding and Tire Failure Caused Fatal Crash Involving Diogo Jota
New details have emerged regarding the tragic car accident that claimed the life of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota. According to El Mundo, citing a preliminary report from Spain’s Civil Guard, the crash was caused by excessive speeding and a tire malfunction.
Jota, 28, died on Thursday in Spain after the Lamborghini he was driving veered off the road, flipped over, and caught fire. His brother, André, was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The incident occurred during an overtaking maneuver when one of the tires reportedly burst, leading to the fatal loss of control.
Investigators noted tire skid marks starting roughly 100 meters from the impact site and stretching for about 50 meters — evidence that played a key role in shaping the initial conclusions. Family testimonies helped confirm that Jota was behind the wheel.
While the expert analysis is still ongoing, the case has already been forwarded to the court. Authorities have stated that no signs of criminal behavior have been found at this stage.
Jota’s death has sent shockwaves through the football world, with tributes pouring in from teammates, fans, and clubs across Europe.
