Raphinha Clarifies His Stance on Saudi Arabia Transfer Rumors
Barcelona winger Raphinha has addressed rumors regarding a possible offer from Saudi Arabia. According to the Brazilian, he might have seriously considered such a move last year due to difficult personal circumstances and financial struggles. However, he emphasized that money is no longer a decisive factor for him.
"Yesterday someone sent me the news about a supposed offer from Saudi Arabia. Honestly, I think I would have accepted it last year. At that time, I was going through a tough period emotionally, and such money could have changed my family's life. But now, money is not what motivates me," Raphinha said, as quoted by Madrid-Barcelona.
According to reports, the rumored offer would have been around €20 million per year from one of the Saudi clubs. However, Barcelona has not received any official bid.
This season, Raphinha is enjoying the best form of his career. Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, he has scored 30 goals and provided 23 assists across 49 matches. He also matched Lionel Messi’s record for most goal contributions in a single Champions League season, recording 19.
Despite Barcelona’s financial difficulties and external interest, Raphinha remains a key player for the club. His current contract runs until the summer of 2027, and discussions are reportedly underway to extend it until 2029.
Raphinha’s decision reflects his ambition to achieve sporting success in Europe rather than chasing lucrative contracts.
