PSG Seeks Astronomical Compensation from Mbappé
Paris Saint-Germain has filed a lawsuit against Kylian Mbappé demanding €98 million in compensation and has requested the cancellation of the €55 million seizure imposed on the club’s accounts — an amount the team is required to pay its former star, reports Agence France-Presse.
Previously, Mbappé approached the French Professional Football League (LFP) and UEFA to claim outstanding payments from PSG, including one-third of his signing bonus (€36 million), salaries for the last three months of his contract, and additional bonuses. On September 12, 2024, the LFP’s legal committee ruled that PSG must pay Mbappé €55 million within eight days. That same day, it was reported that PSG had no intention of complying with the order. The club later appealed the decision, but the LFP appeals court rejected the claim. PSG then turned to the French Football Federation’s executive committee, which also dismissed the appeal due to a one-day delay beyond the 10-day submission deadline.
In early April, Mbappé successfully obtained a court order to freeze €55 million in PSG’s accounts.
On Monday, PSG filed a petition in a first-instance court to overturn the asset freeze. The club’s lawyers argue that Mbappé “has not provided sufficient evidence of the debt.” The case is scheduled to be heard on May 26.
Additionally, PSG has filed a countersuit against Mbappé for €98 million. According to the club’s lawyer, Renaud Semerdjian, Mbappé’s conduct has caused financial harm to the club: “The aim is not necessarily to recover €98 million, but to show that he owes us money and that his claims are baseless.”
After the 2023/24 season, Mbappé chose not to renew his contract with PSG and joined Real Madrid as a free agent. During his time with the Parisian club, he became a six-time Ligue 1 champion and won the French Cup four times. He scored 256 goals for PSG, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer.
