One of the best German referees risks missing the home EURO 2024
German referee Felix Brych has suffered a knee ligament tear and may miss EURO 2024
German referee Felix Brych suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his record Bundesliga match, according to the German Football Association on its official website.
The incident occurred during the 12th round match of the Bundesliga between Eintracht and Stuttgart (1:2). This meeting became the 344th for the referee in the Bundesliga, thereby Brych repeated the achievement of Wolfgang Stark in the number of matches officiated in the German championship, which was set in 2017.
"That's how it is. That's life. Now I have a record, and it makes me happy. On the other hand, I am very disappointed," Brych said, as quoted by Sky Sport.
In the 32nd minute of the match, the referee stumbled and suffered a severe knee injury. The referee completed the first half of the game, after which he was replaced by the fourth official, Patrick Schwengers. After the match, Brych underwent an examination, and a cruciate ligament tear was diagnosed.
The recovery timeline for the German referee is currently unknown. According to media reports, Brych risks missing the home EURO 2024, which will take place from June 14 to July 14.
