Noa Lang suffers horror finger injury at Anfield after collision with advertising board

There was no suspense in Liverpool’s 4–0 win over Galatasaray — but one moment overshadowed everything.

In the 75th minute, Galatasaray winger Noa Lang crashed into an advertising board near the goal at Anfield. Unfortunately, the impact came right where a sharp metal fixture was exposed.

Lang immediately dropped to the ground screaming, clutching his right hand. Galatasaray’s medical staff rushed in and spent several minutes treating him on the pitch. Liverpool players quickly gathered around, clearly shaken by what they saw.

The Dutch international was given oxygen to prevent him from passing out due to the pain before being stretchered off. As he left the field, Anfield rose to applaud.

Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported that Lang would undergo urgent surgery in England. The information was later confirmed by head coach Okan Buruk and Galatasaray themselves. In an official statement, the club described the injury as a “serious laceration to the thumb of the right hand.”

However, the situation may be even worse. Journalist Mustafa Mandev claimed in a post-match report that part of Lang’s finger was severed when his hand became trapped between the advertising boards. Spanish outlet Marca backed up that version.

UEFA have since opened an investigation into the incident.

Lang has received support from his Netherlands teammates. Jeremie Frimpong said:

«I checked on him… Some are saying half of his finger is gone. It’s really bad. He’s in a lot of pain.»

Virgil van Dijk added:

«I spoke to him. It’s a freak accident. I hope he’s back as soon as possible. We need him — especially for the national team. We’re all with him.»
