Messi Responds to Question About Participating in the 2026 World Cup
Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentina national football team, stated that he currently cannot confirm his participation in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Messi won the World Cup 2022 in Qatar and the Copa America in 2021 and 2024 with the Argentina team.
"I could fulfill all my dreams and achieve much more than I dreamed of as a child. God gave me this. I achieved the biggest dream of a footballer — winning the World Cup. I won many titles with the club of my life, Barcelona. I also had victories at PSG, and now I'm winning with Inter Miami. I strive to achieve even more," Messi told Marca.
At the same time, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner does not guarantee that he will play in the 2026 World Cup, which could be the sixth of his career.
"I try to enjoy each day. The time will come, and we will see; I don’t like to rush things. I hope to continue performing at this level, feel good, and be happy. That is more important to me than whether I go to the tournament or not," the Argentine emphasized.
