Justice Prevails. The Best Team of the Euros Takes the Title
Spain will have to be reckoned with for many years to come.
In the lower bracket, we initially supported England. England in the final was essential. That's because Spain's greatness needed to be compared with the best. In the group stage, they trounced Italy. Then came Germany. A bit later, and somewhat less elegantly, they sent France home.
England is the fifth country in UEFA's top-5 ranking, the fifth among the giants on Spain's path — apart from Spain.
In the final, the Spaniards beat England with their own weapon. How many times have the British equalized in the last seconds? But here, La Furia Roja scored the golden goal in the 86th minute.
De la Fuente also deserves praise. He brought on Oyarzabal, and it paid off. The whole world saw those millimeters that separated Oyarzabal, the hero, from Oyarzabal, the failure. But in this Euro, the strongest were lucky.
Luck favored the strongest, the English team — to be more precise. The British had no business being in the final. Even Slovakia would have looked more fitting here. But Bellingham scored an overhead kick, and England stayed until the final.
The whole world was shocked then. It turns out you can equalize like that, too. Then, Saka and Watkins had to be celebrated the same way.
Southgate was seriously considered for a knighthood. Only a tiny thing remained — to win the final.
And it turned out as it did. Spain was indeed the best. Seven matches — seven wins. The playoffs were free of Spanish penalties. They even beat the hosts for the first time in a major tournament.
After that, there was no doubt the best here. There were options to give the title to England. But then came Olmo's great pass, and England went home. Honestly, everyone goes home, but with different moods. La Furia Roja's mood is much better. Again, all thanks to Olmo's pass. By the way, the fourth Euro victory. No one else has achieved such a record. Gold suits the Spanish team well.
Victory is a great event in itself. But if you recall, this cup has the scalps of Italy, Germany, France, and England. This makes the victory unique. It increases the value of players like Yamal and Williams. The Henri Delaunay Trophy of 2024 will be exceptional.
Agree; sympathies were divided impulsively from the other side of the screen. In the final, there can be no sentimentality. Spain was better. If England had won, we would have had to write another article about anti-football. But as it stands, justice triumphed. Euro 2024 gold went to Spain. For a moment, the football world felt warmer for everyone who understood this thing called football.
