Harry Kane

Harry Kane added another major record to his Bayern Munich career on Friday night, scoring twice in a 7-0 win over Union Berlin to become the fastest player in Bundesliga history to reach 100 goals. The England captain started the match on 99 league goals, converted a first-half penalty for his century and then scored again after the break to finish the night with 101 Bundesliga goals in just 98 appearances.

The milestone comes immediately after Kane described 2025/26 as the best season of his career. His 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England last season remain a separate total: the two goals against Union belong to the new 2026/27 campaign. Those 73 goals were still enough to produce the most prolific season by a player since Lionel Messi scored 82 for Barcelona and Argentina in 2011/12.

How many Bundesliga goals does Harry Kane have now?

Kane now has 101 Bundesliga goals in 98 appearances since joining Bayern from Tottenham in 2023. He went into the Union Berlin match with 99 goals from 97 league games and reached 100 by converting a penalty in the 39th minute after Michael Olise had been fouled. He then added another goal after half-time as Bayern turned the match into a rout.

His 100th goal broke a record that had stood for almost half a century. Dieter Müller needed 129 Bundesliga appearances to reach the century for Cologne, meaning Kane got there 31 matches faster. Before Friday's game, the Bundesliga had already noted that Kane was averaging one goal every 78.5 minutes in the competition.

Milestone Kane's record
Bundesliga appearances 98
Bundesliga goals 101
Games needed to reach 100 goals 98
Previous record – Dieter Müller 129

What happened against Union Berlin?

Bayern demolished Union Berlin 7-0 at the Allianz Arena, with Kane scoring twice and Michael Olise completing a hat-trick. Jamal Musiala and Ismael Saibari also scored as Bayern produced their biggest Bundesliga victory of the young season.

Kane's first goal was the historic one. His penalty took him to exactly 100 Bundesliga goals, before his second of the evening moved the total immediately on to 101. The result also continued Bayern's unbeaten start to the league campaign.

For Kane, however, the individual milestone inevitably dominated the night. Reaching 100 Bundesliga goals is significant in itself; doing it 31 appearances faster than the previous record holder puts the pace of his Bayern career into much sharper perspective.

How many goals did Harry Kane score in 2025/26?

Kane scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England during the 2025/26 season. That number does not change because of his brace against Union Berlin: Friday's goals are part of 2026/27.

Of the 73, 61 came for Bayern Munich and 12 for England. Kane scored 36 times in the Bundesliga, 14 in the Champions League, ten in the DFB-Pokal and once in the Supercup, before adding his international goals for England. His overall seasonal total was the highest recorded by a player since Messi's 82 in 2011/12.

Team / Competition Goals
Bayern Munich – Bundesliga 36
Bayern Munich – Champions League 14
Bayern Munich – DFB-Pokal 10
Bayern Munich – Supercup 1
England 12
Total 73

How close was Kane to Lionel Messi’s 82-goal season?

Kane finished nine goals short of Messi's 82-goal season. He would have needed nine more goals to equal the Argentine's total and ten more to surpass it.

Messi scored 82 competitive goals for Barcelona and Argentina during 2011/12, while Kane finished 2025/26 on 73. Kane's season nevertheless moved him into extremely rare territory: even Cristiano Ronaldo never produced a higher full-season total for club and country.

Player Season Goals
Lionel Messi 2011/12 82
Harry Kane 2025/26 73
Gerd Müller 1972/73 72

The nine-goal difference also shows why Messi's season remains such an extraordinary benchmark. Kane broke club records, won the European Golden Shoe and produced one of the most prolific campaigns of modern football, yet still finished noticeably short of 82.

Is Messi’s 82-goal season the same as his 91-goal record?

No. These are two different records and they are often confused.

Messi's 82 goals came during the 2011/12 football season. His better-known 91 goals were scored during the calendar year 2012, which covers parts of two different club seasons.

Kane's 73-goal campaign should therefore be compared with Messi's 82 rather than 91. Both figures represent complete football seasons involving club and international matches.

How quickly did Kane reach 100 Bundesliga goals?

Kane required only 98 matches, comfortably beating Dieter Müller's previous record of 129. Before reaching the century, Kane had already set several intermediate records for the fastest player to various Bundesliga scoring milestones.

The difference of 31 games is enormous. A Bundesliga season contains 34 matches, so Kane effectively reached 100 almost an entire league campaign sooner than the previous record holder.

His record is even more striking because the first two Bundesliga games of 2026/27 passed without a Kane goal. He opened his league account for the season against Elversberg, taking his career total to 99, before the Union brace pushed him through 100 and on to 101.

How many goals has Kane scored for Bayern in total?

Before the Union match, Kane had already reached 150 competitive goals for Bayern Munich, scoring the landmark winner against Elversberg. That total came in only 153 appearances for the club.

His Bundesliga numbers account for the majority of those goals, but Kane has also scored heavily in the Champions League, German Cup and Supercup since arriving from Tottenham.

The pace has barely slowed with age. Kane is now 33, yet his third Bayern season was comfortably his most prolific, and he has begun the fourth by reaching another record that no Bundesliga striker had previously approached at the same speed.

Was 2025/26 Harry Kane’s best season?

Kane himself says it was. Speaking before the Union Berlin match, he described 2025/26 as the best season of his career after scoring 73 goals and enjoying major success with Bayern and England.

That season was particularly significant because Kane's extraordinary individual numbers were finally accompanied by major trophies. His early Bayern career had often produced debate about whether his goals would translate into silverware; by the end of 2025/26, that question had largely disappeared.

Friday's performance also suggests the previous campaign has not been followed by a dramatic decline. Kane has started a new season, and the first major headline is already another Bundesliga record.

Could Harry Kane win the 2026 Ballon d’Or?

Kane's 73-goal campaign has made him one of the leading names in the discussion ahead of the 2026 Ballon d'Or, although he has publicly played down his chances and said he is more interested in future performances than individual awards. The winner will be announced on October 26.

The latest Bundesliga record strengthens his statistical case without changing the voting period that produced it. Becoming the fastest player ever to 100 Bundesliga goals provides another illustration of the level Kane has maintained since moving to Germany.

Whether that is enough to win the award is for the voters to decide, but his numbers are difficult to overlook: 73 goals last season, 101 Bundesliga goals in 98 career appearances and one of the most productive stretches by a centre-forward in modern European football.

Can Kane eventually beat Messi’s 82-goal season?

Predicting another 70-goal season for a 33-year-old striker would be risky, let alone an 83-goal campaign. What Kane's Bundesliga record demonstrates is that his production has remained remarkably consistent even as he has moved further into his thirties.

The comparison is now very clear. Kane's two goals against Union Berlin take his career Bundesliga total to 101; they do not change his 73-goal total from 2025/26. That completed season remains nine goals short of Messi's 82, while the new campaign has already brought Kane another place in the record books.

For now, the two numbers tell different parts of the same story: 73 goals in 2025/26 made it the best season of Kane's career; 101 Bundesliga goals in 98 matches have now made him the fastest centurion in the competition's history.
