Gianluigi Donnarumma
Gianluigi Donnarumma Being Pushed Out of PSG – Where Should He Go Next?

It’s been a turbulent summer for Gianluigi Donnarumma in Paris.

Once considered the undisputed No.1 at PSG, the Italian goalkeeper now finds himself on the verge of an exit. His contract runs until 2026, but renewal talks collapsed after disagreements over salary and performance-based clauses. The club has already secured a potential replacement in 22-year-old Lucas Chevalier, the standout keeper in Ligue 1 last season, and head coach Luis Enrique made a statement by leaving Donnarumma out of the UEFA Super Cup squad against Tottenham. Multiple reports, including from Fabrizio Romano, claim the relationship between player and club is “completely broken” — making his departure this summer, or at the very latest next season, a certainty.

With PSG moving on, Donnarumma is now at the centre of a transfer battle involving some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Here’s where he could land next.

Manchester United

The most likely destination for Gianluigi Donnarumma appears to be the red side of Manchester. Showman André Onana hasn’t exactly been winning over United fans, and in the 2024/25 Premier League season, only nine goalkeepers have conceded more than the Cameroonian (44 goals). On top of that, Onana could miss the opening rounds due to injury. Reports suggest United are considering signing a new shot-stopper, and they’re currently favourites in the race for Donnarumma. According to several sources, the Italian himself is keen on the move — making it a deal that seems perfect for everyone involved.

Chelsea

Unfortunately for Robert Sánchez, Chelsea are also in need of a top-tier goalkeeper. Yes, in last season’s Premier League, the Spaniard had the best save percentage in the league (76.4%), but by February, he had already made five errors leading to goals. In June, Chelsea came close to signing Mike Maignan, but eventually went to the Club World Cup with Sánchez between the posts — and he impressed, conceding five goals with an expected goals against (xGA) of 9.2. That performance looked like it might secure his spot as first-choice, but now the club could be turning to Donnarumma. The Italian would likely welcome the transfer, and Chelsea could get an elite goalkeeper for years to come.

Manchester City

This summer, Pep Guardiola has already signed James Trafford for €30 million, but the 22-year-old is unlikely to walk straight into the starting XI. Ederson’s future remains uncertain — the Brazilian has been considering his options for a while, and Galatasaray are reportedly interested in signing him. Donnarumma could be the perfect replacement, especially since Pep was rumoured to be interested in him back in 2024. If City want to swap an unmotivated goalkeeper for one capable of single-handedly winning big matches, now might be the time.
