Former Barcelona star faces 9 years in prison for rape
The Barcelona prosecutor has requested a nine-year prison sentence for former footballer of Barcelona and the Brazilian national team, Dani Alves, who is accused of rape, reports El Periodico.
In early January, a woman whose name is not disclosed filed a police report against Alves, accusing him of violent acts of a sexual nature in one of the nightclubs in Barcelona. The footballer denied his guilt. On January 20, the Barcelona court ordered Alves to be held in custody, rejecting bail. Later, the media reported that the athlete wanted to reach a deal with the investigation to receive a minimal punishment.
In addition to the prison term, the prosecution is demanding compensation of 150,000 euros for the victim and a probationary period of 10 years.
As part of Barcelona, Alves became a six-time champion of Spain, a four-time winner of the Spanish Cup and Super Cup, and a three-time winner of the Champions League. He also played for Sevilla, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Brazilian teams Bahia and Sao Paulo.
