Fernandes Lets United Down Again – Amorim’s Problems Far from Over

This time, Manchester United dropped points against Fulham.

In the opening round of the Premier League, United looked strong but still lost to Arsenal. Matchday two felt like a continuation of that game. Within two minutes, Cunha had already taken two shots, the second one bouncing off the post.

Cunha Threatens Early

The Brazilian striker, starting as the No. 9, nearly scored again midway through the half after a clever pass from Bayındır. He controlled the ball beautifully in stride and struck well with his second touch, but Fulham keeper Leno made a brilliant save.

Fulham eventually pushed the game further from their box, but then disaster struck. Just before halftime, Bassey lost his composure and needlessly threw Mount to the ground during a corner. From the resulting penalty, Fernandes blazed his shot over the bar. Once again, United’s captain failed his team. Last week, his errors gifted Arsenal dangerous moments; this time, he wasted a crucial chance and even switched off in possession at times.

Mount Impresses

The silver lining for United was Mason Mount. He played a part in almost everything: laying off for Cunha’s early shot against the post, delivering a slick backheel to Fernandes, executing a no-touch pass to Dorgu, and even winning the penalty. After two underwhelming seasons, Mount finally looks like a new signing in attack.

Yoro Scores His First PL Goal

Early in the second half, United finally broke the deadlock. Mbemo swung in a corner, and Yoro leapt highest, heading in with the help of a deflection. It was the young defender’s first Premier League goal — but it didn’t prove decisive.

Fulham Fight Back

Despite a quiet transfer window that brought in only a backup goalkeeper, Marco Silva found inspiration from the bench. His substitutions changed the game. Smith Rowe timed his run perfectly into the box, converting Iwobi’s low cross in one touch. Two Arsenal academy graduates combined to punish United — 1–1.

In the closing stages, Fulham even looked the better side, edging United in xG, shots, possession, and touches inside the opposition box. Late substitute Maguire almost won it with a header from a corner, but the score stayed level.

United’s problems under Amorim remain unsolved — and Fernandes is once again under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
