Fans Couldn't Handle It. Barcelona Wants to Buy a Player on Credit

Fans donated money to the club, but more was needed.

For the past 10 years, there have been many discussions about Barcelona's debts. Even though the management has changed, the situation has remained the same. On one hand, the Catalans are forced to cut expenses on the transfer market – which might have led to the emergence of a star like Lamine Yamal. On the other hand, they still need to compete with their rivals, and players like Yamal are rare. It seems these few exceptional players aren't in Barcelona's academy.

In the first half of the summer, the Catalans expressed interest in winger Nico Williams, who performed excellently at EURO 2024. However, his price significantly increased after the tournament, and there was no money.

Barca has enormous loan debts, which are increasing every year. The problem is not just the growing number of loans but the substantial amount taken by interest.

Fans initially tried to pool money for the transfer when interest in Nico Williams arose. In other words, they left donations on social media, indicating they were for acquiring Nico. Unsurprisingly, they could only collect a little, so the club intends to approach the bank again to take out a loan. This comes despite Joan Laporta recently assuring that there was money for transfers.

According to Mundo Deportivo, several other clubs are also interested in Nico, so Barcelona needs to act quickly to secure the winger position for years to come. Additionally, Williams and Lamine Yamal are close friends, which might play a role in the player's potential move to the Blaugrana, provided they can find the funds for him.

Barcelona's colossal debts are a significant issue, and how they will resolve the situation is unclear. Of course, team performance can play an important role – prize money still matters. They could sell several players to raise some funds. However, in that case, they cannot expect good results.
