The Manchester United team now has a new leader.

Manchester United's head coach, Erik ten Hag, commented on the decision to strip defender Harry Maguire of the captain's armband.

"There are differences between a coach and a person. Top-level football is focused on results. That's why such decisions must be made, but they should be done fairly, and everything should be transparent. The club appointed me to make such decisions and to communicate them honestly and directly. That's what I always try to do.

I have nothing against Harry, but it was for the team's benefit. After that, you have to accept the decision. But I won't say that Harry is not part of this squad. He must fight for his place. He is a very good center-back. He needs to prove himself. It all depends on him, and I believe he's capable of doing that," the specialist said in an interview with The Athletic.

The new captain of Manchester United is midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
