Chinese police have detained Lionel Messi at the airport during a document check.

Messi arrived in Beijing with his Spanish passport. Citizens of this country need to obtain a visa to enter China. The footballer did not bring his Argentine passport with him.

Spaniards could freely enter Taiwan. Messi explained everything to the police representatives, and he was eventually released after obtaining an expedited visa.

The Argentine national team in Beijing will play a friendly match against Australia on June 15th.
