Can America's Cavan Sullivan Live Up To His Incredible Potential?
It's that time of year when American sports fans start prepping for the return of the football season. Fantasy leagues start working out their draft positions and supporters try to track down the best betting odds for their teams.
Sports betting expert Chirag Dubey explains that the top NFL sports books offer a variety of benefits that include security, a selection of payment methods, great promotions, and a great selection of markets across different leagues. (Source: https://www.sportscasting.com/betting-sites/nfl/)
However, it is a different kind of American "Football" that has been capturing the attention of the world's press in recent months. It would seem that U.S. soccer has a rising star that could be the country's first genuinely world-class player.
Cavan Sullivan is the player making the headlines having smashed Freddy Adu's previous record of being the youngest MLS player to make an appearance. Sullivan was just 14 years and 293 days old when he came on as an 85th-minute substitute in the Philadelphia Union's 5-1 victory against the New England Revolution.
This incredible achievement saw Adu's previous record which had been held since 2004 beaten by 13 days. U.S. soccer fans will be hopeful that the young midfielder can realize his potential after Adu failed to live up to the hype in a career that saw him playing all around the world.
Like Sullivan, Adu played for Philadelphia Union before retiring from playing with 17 caps to his name.
Like Adu, Sullivan operates as an attacking midfielder and the young player cites Manchester City Stars Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva as his main influences.
The exciting talent could find himself playing alongside these two players having agreed to the MLS's largest homegrown player contract in its history with an agreement to move to the English Premier League champions when he turns 18.
With a little over three years to continue learning his trade in the U.S., it is hoped that he will gain valuable first-team experience. Playing in the Eastern Conference alongside players like Lionel Messi should help with this.
Cavan Sullivan has an excellent support network at the Philadelphia Union where his older brother also plays. Quinn Sullivan is a 20-year-old winger and attacking midfielder who has already made over 80 appearances for the first team.
He is also the cousin of former U.S. international full-back Chris Albright and has represented the U.S. at under-15s level.
The MLS has been big news in the global soccer community because of major signings like Messi, Luis Suarez, and Riqui Puig. Signing some of the best players in the world is great for the league’s profile, but it has also been calling out for some quality homegrown stars.
Sullivan, Sacramento Republic's Da'vian Kimbrough, and Maximo Carrizo of New York City FC are all worth keeping an eye on, and if their development continues, soccer fans around the world will be checking out the latest sportsbook and crypto gambling site odds on this fast-growing league.
