Arsenal Blow Huge Chance as Man City Win Premier League Title Decider

The Premier League Sunday had already delivered three entertaining fixtures, so many expected the biggest game of the round — and perhaps the season — to be cautious and tense. Instead, Manchester City and Arsenal exploded into life from the first whistle.

Only minutes had passed when David Raya nearly gifted the hosts an opener. The Arsenal goalkeeper took a heavy touch near his own goal and allowed Erling Haaland to close him down. It was the third straight match in which Raya looked shaky with the ball at his feet, yet he escaped punishment again.

Moments later, Rayan Cherki struck the post from a tight angle after another dangerous move.

Cherki Shines Before Donnarumma Error

City’s pressure finally paid off in the 16th minute. Cherki drove into the box, beat Gabriel Magalhães and fired through the challenge of William Saliba. It was a goal that perfectly matched the flow of the game.

Just when Arsenal looked rattled, City handed them a lifeline. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a huge mistake, allowing Kai Havertz to close him down. This time the error ended with the ball rolling straight into the net.

The Italian immediately raised his hand in apology to teammates and supporters.

After the frantic opening, the match became more physical. City controlled possession and had more shots in the first half, but clear chances were limited. Much of the contest turned into battles all over the pitch, especially the now familiar duel between Haaland and Gabriel.

The second half also began at high speed. Antoine Semenyo broke through one-on-one but lost control at the key moment. Arsenal then enjoyed their best spell, with Eberechi Eze crashing a shot against the post from distance.

But just as Arsenal started to look stronger, they were punished.

Haaland struck in trademark fashion with a one-touch finish to make it 2-1. It was his 23rd Premier League goal of the season and a potentially title-defining moment.

Tempers Flare as Arsenal Miss Late Chance

The tension kept rising. On 73 minutes, City were rescued by the post after a deflection off Nico O'Reilly.

Soon after, a mass confrontation broke out — unsurprisingly sparked by another collision between Gabriel and Haaland. Both players were booked.

Mikel Arteta made an attacking change late on, sending Viktor Gyökeres on for Martín Zubimendi.

Arsenal still had one final opportunity in stoppage time, but Havertz headed narrowly over the crossbar from close range.

What This Means for the Title Race

City held on for a massive victory. The gap between the two sides is now only three points, with Manchester City still having a game in hand against Crystal Palace.

If the title race ends level on points, goal difference could decide everything — and Arsenal may look back at this night as the moment they let the Premier League slip away.
