Argentina's National Team Goalkeeper Suspended for Two Matches
FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has suspended Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for two matches due to offensive behavior, as reported on AFA's website.
After the 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Chile (3:0) on September 6, the goalkeeper made an obscene gesture with the Copa America trophy, which was brought onto the field to honor the tournament victory. On September 10, after a 1:2 loss to Colombia in the World Cup qualifiers, Martinez struck a camera when approached by a cameraman.
"The Argentine Football Association strongly disagrees with the decision made by FIFA's Disciplinary Committee," the statement said.
Martinez will miss the World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Bolivia, scheduled for October 10 and 15, respectively.
