A Unique 24 Hours for Chelsea's Player: Insulted His Opponent and Scored a 14-Minute Hat-trick
In addition to Madueke, Félix, Jackson, and Palmer also scored against Wolves.
It was a busy day for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. It all started the night before the match when the player posted an offensive message about Wolverhampton, saying, "Everything about this place is s***," with a geotag of the city. He quickly deleted the post and wrote, "Posted on the wrong account; you guys are too fast."
His second post didn’t seem like an apology, either. As a result, Madueke was met with boos at Wolves' stadium. Every time he touched the ball, the crowd expressed their displeasure. When Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring and shouted something at the fans, they booed him too.
The match was tough for Chelsea, who had to retake the lead three times. The first half ended 2-2, and the home team was playing just as well. They created more chances, even hitting the post and crossbar.
The second half, however, was decisive, with Madueke scoring a hat-trick in just 14 minutes! All three goals were quite similar, scoring from roughly the same spot. Interestingly, all three assists came from Cole Palmer, who became the top assister after two rounds (although Liverpool and Brentford haven’t played yet).
Chelsea's official account posted a picture of Madueke after the match with the caption: "He’s starting to like this place."
This was Madueke’s first career hat-trick. Palmer finished the match with 1 goal and 3 assists. Towards the end, João Félix scored his first goal after returning to Chelsea. Thanks to this win, Chelsea earned their first points of the season. Conversely, Wolves remain second to last with no points and a goal difference of 2:8, with only Everton doing worse (0:7).
