Carlos Tevez: How’s he doing in China

Tevez, who suffered a calf injury in training, was photographed with his family at Disneyland as Gus Poyet's team were traveling to Jilin province for the game, which they won 3-2. Fans slammed him on social media for this.

Although Tevez was welcomed to his new home with great excitement and fanfare, things have not certainly gone to plan. Months into his venture with Shenghua has proven to be difficult as the former Boca star is looking “loss”, while his team is stuck in the middle of the Super League table.

The Argentinian striker has barely featured for his Chinese side Shanghai Shenghua and is considered to be “introverted” as he is reluctant to blend in with his surroundings. Besides getting criticized for going to Disneyland during a Super League game, “he caused waves at Shanghai from the moment he arrived as he brought over no less than 19 family members to live alongside him, and so far he has failed to venture outside of that circle and integrate into Chinese life” (Edwards).

Goal.com wrote that: “Having begun his Shenhua stint in fine fashion with a debut goal, Tevez has gone on to play just five of the club’s opening eight games, failing to add to his tally. Colombian duo Gio Moreno and Fredy Guarin have comfortably overshadowed their fellow import, who once again sat out at the weekend due to injury. His form, however, is the least of Poyet’s concerns; more troubling is his apparent refusal to adapt to his new surroundings”enter image description here

What do you guys think? Even though it’s maybe too early to think that Tevez would be a failure in China. Should the £615,000 per week player stay in China or come back to Boca?

@Fero Well, in my opinion, this will propably be his last club, he'll put up with the situation for money and propably won't try to overly adapt to China as he propably consider this team a temporary thing before his retreat. Thats how I see it anyway. :V

I'm surprised they expect him to integrate himself into their culture. Aguero has been in England for like 6 years now and can barely speak a sentence of English! Some players just don't give a hoot.

@Dynastian Well, it really depend on the language you do speak and the difficulty to speak the other language. Take Zlatan for example, played in France for about 3 year and never learned a single french word. But since he already knew english, it was easy for him to adapt in England. Player who speak spanish seem to have harder time learning english for some reason, propably because the form of sentence being different. :S

i can attest to that. spanish to english is a hard transition for a lot of people. especially for footballers, who haven't had the greatest education and most coming from south america have lived in poverty. football is the only way out for some. so people should relax about the language issues.
